Weakly

EW (and how appropriate is it that Entertainment Weekly's initials are "Ew!"?) reports on Love Monkey's ratings:

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler seemed really psyched about "potential" for "growth."

I love this blog - I was one of the original four writers for the pilot and summarily fired when I insisted they were willfully ignoring any realistic knowlege of the current music business. they hired a "consultant" who was an old guy who had a great knowlege ofthe music biz - in the 80s, but as he is a retiree now and thinks he's hip for listening to General Public - well, you get an idea of where the show is headed. Right down the toilet.

And I was just saying to Ossilin today that were it not for that whole "hip music" angle it's trying (and failing so miserably) to nail, this show would not have raised my ire at all. It would've just been another mid-season replacement show. They should've just left that main character as a magazine editor or whatever. But noooooo.

    And thus, IT'S ON.

If the show committed just one sin (shameless marketing vehicle for SonyBMG transparently veiled as a story about a guy who ditches the majors for an indie; lame, insipid plot and dialogue; questionable taste in music [pushing Mainstr-Emo(TM) music, e.g. Teddy Geiger, should be a punishable crime]; absolutely no ridiculous camp factor, a la The OC), it might have flown under my radar. But the confluence of sins (with, I'm sure, more to come) makes it a worthy target for those of us with too much time on our hands. BRING IT.

"where is my pen" seems to be adding validity to my theory that this show "skews older."

When I, Methuselah, "get" all of your cultural references, you are in trouble--plus, the commercials for Levitra, Vitorin, Ameriprise Retirement...what is up with that? Is it supposed to be unhip??

As far as "potential for growth"--on a fictional level, when you have singed 21 bands and not one of them has made money, there is someplace for "Tom" to "go"--TO THE BLACK INK SIDE OF THE LEDGER, FOR CRIMINEYS SAKES!!

Sheesh, wouldn't the Law of Averages say that the next guy a tone-deaf lawyer who hates music signs would be a hit??
